Applications of embedded systems
Filed Under Embedded | Posted on January 3, 2008
An embedded system is a special-purpose computer system designed to perform one or a few dedicated functions, sometimes with real-time computing constraints. It is usually embedded as part of a complete device including hardware and mechanical parts. Embedded systems have become very important today as they control many of the common devices we use.
Some of the applications of embedded systems are:
* Consumer Electronics: Microwave ovens, digital cameras, CD players, DVD players, washing machines, set top box etc.
* Telecommunications: Telephone switches, cellular phones, web-enabled navigation systems, radios, personal communication devices, PDAs etc.
* Medical: Biologically interfaced systems, Medical control systems, Pacemakers etc.
* Automotive: Engine controllers, anti-lock brake controllers etc.
* Plant control: Robots, plant monitors, industrial process systems, airplane control systems, missile guidance systems etc.
* Home automation: Uses wired- and wireless-networking that can be used to control lights, climate, security, audio/visual, etc.,
